Happening is a suspenseful and potent adaptation of a semi-autobiographical novel by French writer Annie Ernaux, in which she dissects her experience of abortion.

The film follows Anne, a young student who decides to have an abortion in order to finish her studies and escape her constrained existence in a working-class family. But it is 1963, abortion is illegal in France and the clock is ticking – Anne’s exams are approaching and her belly is growing. The search for an illegal abortion is proving more difficult than expected.
