Jesmark is a young Maltese fisherman who supports his family by fishing with a wooden boat inherited from his father.

Smaller catches, imposed legal restrictions and a competitive fishing market are leading him to a financial crisis deepened by unexpected expenditures for the health of his newborn son. Desperate to provide for his family financially, Jesmark enters the world of illegal fishing by turning his back on generations of the fishing tradition.
