Set in Hong Kong in 1962, the film "In the Mood for Love" follows Chow Mo-Wan, a newspaper editor who has just moved into a new building with his wife. At the same time, the beautiful secretary Su Li-zhen and her husband move into the crowded building.

As their spouses are often away on business, Chow and Li-zhen spend most of their time together as friends. They have a lot in common - from the shops they visit together to enjoying martial arts. However, soon both are shocked to learn that their spouses have actually become lovers. Hurt and angry, they find solace in a growing friendship determined not to become unfaithful like their spouses...
