All the President's Men

All the President's Men

U.S.A. 138 min.

After a break-in at the Democratic Party headquarters in Washington, young Washington Post reporters Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein decide to investigate the background of the event. At first, their editors, led by Ben Bradlee, consider the story too risky to pursue. However, as the information Woodward and Bernstein receive from a mysterious source at the very top of President Richard Nixon’s administration—known under the pseudonym Deep Throat—becomes more revealing, the editors realize the two journalists are on the trail of an exclusive and highly provocative case with potentially devastating consequences. The scandal, later known as Watergate, would ultimately lead to President Nixon’s resignation.

Based on the book by the protagonists of the Watergate affair—after which U.S. President Richard Nixon was forced to resign—the film is considered one of the finest American political thrillers. The atmosphere of conspiracy, immorality, and menace is convincingly conveyed through long takes and a documentary-like style, while the outstanding cast has been especially praised.
