An Officer and a Spy

An Officer and a Spy

France, Italy 132 min.

On January 5, 1895, Captain Alfred Dreyfus, a young rising officer, was accused of spying for Germany and sentenced to life in prison on the Devil's Island.

Witnesses to his public humiliation include Georges Picquart, who's just promoted to commander of a military intelligence unit that captured Dreyfus. However, after Picquart discovers that the Germans are still receiving classified information, he is drawn into a dangerous labyrinth of fraud and corruption that threatens not only his honor but his life itself.

AN OFFICER AND A SPY is a tense thriller starring French actor Jean Dujardin, who won the prestigious Oscar in 2011 in the category of leading male role for his performance in the film "The Artist". He was joined in supporting roles by acclaimed actor Louis Garrel and Emmanuelle Seigner, otherwise the wife of Roman Polanski in real life. After winning the Silver Lion for directing at the Venice Film Festival last year - the second most important award of the entire festival - Polanski recently triumphed with the film AN OFFICER AND A SPY at the French Cesar Award, a counterpart to the American Oscar with a record 12 nominations, including for best film and direction. Although protests were organized in Paris before the award ceremony by the Women's Rights Movement against Polanski, but also by the Academy itself, which included his film in the competition for awards, the film eventually won three awards, of which Polanski himself received two - for best adapted screenplay and best direction.
