Francophonie Month: Heads or Fails
In Heads or Fails, a group of outcasts and petty criminals are caught in bizarre, almost dreamlike situations within an urban environment. The film's central theme is the search for meaning in a world of losers. Through a series of absurd encounters and clumsy attempts at love or profit, the characters ultimately celebrate failure as the only authentic way of existing. The film premiered at renowned festivals of fantastic and independent cinema, including the Locarno Film Festival.
This eccentric Belgian comedy by the Guit brothers continues their distinctive style of absurd humor and visual playfulness, as seen in their earlier work, Fils de plouc. They are known for writing, directing, editing, and acting in their own films, which allows them to maintain complete creative control over their projects.
Their films are characterized by a lo-fi aesthetic, anarchic energy, and dark humor. They employ rapid editing, grotesque situations, and non-professional actors to create a world balancing surrealism and social satire that often evokes a punk sensibility in cinema.
