God Will Not Help

God Will Not Help

Croatia, Italia, Romania, Greece, France, Slovenia 137 min.

The story begins in the 20th century. A Chilean woman named Teresa arrives in a small Dalmatian mountain village, claiming to be the widow of the elder’s deceased brother, who died in a Chilean mine. The arrival of this mysterious foreigner, who does not speak the language or understand the customs, brings both unease and a sense of freedom to the closed rural community.

The long-awaited second film by director Hana Jušić (Quit Staring at My Plate, ZFF 2016 – Special Mention) is a historical drama with mystery elements, blending the atmosphere of the Brontë sisters' novels with that of the Balkans and the Wild West. It premiered at the Locarno Film Festival, where Manuella Martelli and Ana Marija Veselčić won the Best Actress award.
