It Was Just an Accident
A car breakdown brings a family to mechanic Vahid, a former political prisoner who becomes convinced that the driver is actually his former tormentor. What seems like a harmless accident sets off a chain of increasingly serious consequences.
Renowned Iranian director Jafar Panahi, in this tense, darkly comic revenge thriller, explores the moral cracks opened by trauma, with a film that earned him the Palme d’Or at Cannes. His depiction of social repression, gender inequality, as well as deep humanism and humor in portrayals of everyday Iranian life, has won Panahi top awards at the world’s most prestigious festivals, which has also frequently subjected him to political censorship and sanctions by the Iranian authorities.
