The action of this cult achievement in the 80s follows the long-term friendship, and later rivalry, between Jacques and Enzo, two of the world's best deep-sea scuba divers.

Jacques' unusual diving technique, reminiscent of dolphins, once intrigued the young security officer Johanna. Despite her desire to get to know each other better, her plan backfires. A few weeks later, she learns in her office that Jacques will compete in the diving championship held in Taormina, Sicily. In order to see him again, Johanna invents a business reason for the company to send her to Italy. In Taormina is also Enzo, the current world champion in diving who has not been in contact with Jacques for several years. He is aware that only his former friend can challenge him and possibly defeat him. Johanna and Jacques get closer this time, but Jacques, being more dolphin than human, cannot fully commit to her and his rivalry with Enzo pushes them both into dangerous territory...
