On a weekend trip to the countryside, young piano student Laura miraculously survives a car accident. She is rescued by Betty, a local witness, who invites her into her home and cares for her with near-maternal tenderness. Initially cautious and reserved, Betty’s husband and son gradually accept Laura as part of their family. But their fragile routine is soon disrupted by mysterious ghosts from the past.

The latest film by award-winning German director Christian Petzold is an intriguing psychodrama that moves between nightmare and fairy tale, exploring trauma, memory, and myth. It premiered in the Directors’ Fortnight program at Cannes.
