Nuremberg

Hungary, U.S.A. 148 min.

"Nuremberg" is a powerful historical drama that deals with the Nuremberg trials, but from a very specific perspective. Instead of focusing on the trial of the Nazi regime's top leaders, the plot follows the relationship between Douglas Kelley (Rami Malek), an American military psychiatrist, and Hermann Göring (Russell Crowe), the highest-ranking Nazi war criminal to survive. Kelley's task is to assess whether the defendants are fit to stand trial, but he goes a step further, attempting to uncover the nature of evil through a series of intense conversations with Göring.

James Vanderbilt, best known as the screenwriter of Zodiac, delivers a surgically precise script that explores a psychological game of cat and mouse. Russell Crowe is both unrecognisable and frighteningly charismatic as Hermann Göring, while Rami Malek excels in his portrayal of a man who gradually loses his inner peace as he descends into Göring’s dark psyche.

Visually, the film evokes the claustrophobia of prison cells and the gravity of the historical moment, posing the timeless question: where does evil come from?
