Bob is a weathered revolutionary, constantly stoned and paranoid. He belongs to an armed group of activists that attacks detention centers for migrants on the Mexican-American border. His troubles begin when his daughter Willa goes missing, and a sworn enemy from his past reappears on the scene.
Paul Thomas Anderson’s new film, One Battle After Another, is inspired by Thomas Pynchon’s satirical novel Vineland, in which the great postmodernist writer offers a distinctive perspective on the transformation of the American political and mental landscape—from the revolutionary 1960s to the reactionary Reagan era that defined the 1980s.
One Battle After Another swept through this year’s Oscars, winning 6 ‘golden statuettes’ (Best Picture, Best Director, Best Supporting Actor, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Editing, and Best Casting), and it was also nominated in 7 additional categories (Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Cinematography, Best Sound, Best Original Score, and Best Production Design).
In addition, the film won three awards at the 31st Critics' Choice Awards (including Best Picture), four awards at the 83rd Golden Globe Awards (including Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy), one award out of a record seven nominations at the 32nd Screen Actors Guild Awards, and six awards at the 79th British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA) (including Best Film). The film was also listed among the American Film Institute’s Top Ten Films of 2025 and won five awards from the National Board of Review (including Best Film).
