Srbenka

Croatia 70 min.

"Srbenka" is a film about peer violence toward children of different nationalities in Croatia. It examines how the generation born after the war copes with the dark shadows of history.

In the winter of 1991, a Serbian girl, Aleksandra Zec, was killed in Zagreb. Although the perpetrators were known, they were never punished for the crime. A quarter of a century later, director Oliver Frljić staged a theatrical play about the case in Rijeka. Hidden traumas spring to the surface and theatrical rehearsals become collective psychotherapy.
