In the German village of Eichwald, everything seems to take its course: most of the peasants are in the service of barons and baronesses, and the children undergo a strict upbringing by the local pastor.

One day someone placed a rope on which the baron's horse tripped and overthrew him, and not long after it seems that someone set fire to the barn. Two children were soon kidnapped. No one understands what is actually happening, whether it is a conspiracy, and who is planning to cause a commotion among the peaceful peasants and why. The leader of the church choir is also thinking about this, to whom the whole thing seems carefully planned...
