Third world

Croatia 98 min.

'The Third World' is not just a documentary about Haustor, the legendary Zagreb band that helped shape the music scene of former Yugoslavia. It tells the story of two creative opposites: Darko Rundek and Srđan Sacher. The Third World is not just a biographical portrait or a nostalgic recollection; it is a mosaic of opposites united by the magic of everyday life and the city of Zagreb that shaped them. The film reflects the city's spirit, clash and visual identity through Haustor's unique aesthetic. Through candid conversations, sharp observations and rich archival footage — not to mention the band's reunion in the studio after forty years to record a remake of the eponymous song — the film brings to life a time when the 1984 album was met with misunderstanding but is now regarded as one of the most significant pop-rock records of former Yugoslavia.

The restoration of a lost recording of the dub version of the song evolved into a record of the creative process after the band members reunited in the studio nearly four decades later. The result was an entirely new version of the song — a dialogue between the band's past and present.
