Vermiglio

Italy, France, Belgium 119 min.

The film follows the large family of a village schoolteacher in the eponymous isolated Italian mountain village at the end of World War II. The arrival of a Sicilian deserter, Pietro (Giuseppe De Domenico), and his powerful bond with the teacher’s eldest daughter will change the course of life for all the family members. Through a paradoxical twist of fate, the family loses its peace at the very moment the world finally finds it. An intimate family drama and the Alpine landscapes weave a stunning story of love, loss, and resilience.

Premiered in Venice in 2024, where it won the Grand Jury Prize (Silver Lion), later received the FIPRESCI Screenplay Award in Palm Springs, and was also selected as Italy’s official submission for the 2025 Oscars.
