ZFF travels: Happy holidays

Palestine, Germany, France, Italy, Qatar 123 min.

Fifi is a university student who has just freed herself from her family's warm but strict grip. However, her newly discovered freedom is already at risk. After waking up in hospital following a minor accident, she must decide how much of her new life to reveal. However, with a suspicious and perceptive mother, keeping secrets is difficult.

Winner of the Best Screenplay award in the Horizons section at the Venice Film Festival, Happy Holidays is the second film by the acclaimed Palestinian director Scandar Copti. Through his directorial style, Copti draws comparisons with the work of Asghar Farhadi and Robert Altman, examining how state power and authority influence human intimacy and reshape personal relationships in conservative societies, affecting everyone — particularly women.
