ZFF travels: How Come It's All Green Out Here?

Serbia, Croatia 114 min.

Nikola used to make films, but now he’s stuck shooting commercials. When he learns of an opportunity to finally bring his grandmother’s remains home — she was forced to flee Croatia for Serbia during the war — he sets off with his father on a journey from Belgrade to Dalmatia. Along the way, Nikola learns lessons about parenthood, family and how memories can be deceptive.

How Is It So Green Here? is a melancholic meditation on homeland, identity and family. The new film by Nikola Ležaić, director of the cult hit Tilva Roš (2010), premiered at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. In Pula, it was honoured in the minority co-production category with Golden Arenas for Best Film, Best Actor, and Best Cinematography.
