"Portrait of a Lady on Fire", a film not to be missed!

The new film year in the Kino Zona has started masterfully. The first screening of the film "Parasite" held on Friday left the organizers excited by the exceptional interest so the Concert Hall of the Rector's Palace was filled to the last seat. Since the interest in the film doubled the number of seats, an additional screening of the film was organized three days later, extremely well attended as well. This Friday, another brilliant film is coming to the Kino Zona, and it is about the multi-award winning historical romantic drama "Portrait of a Lady on Fire".

On an isolated island in Brittany in the late 18th century, Heloïse, a young noblewoman who has just left a convent awaiting engagement in Milan, and Marianne, a painter who comes to paint a portrait of the girl's mother to recognize her future fiancé, meet. But Heloïse does not want to get married and refuses to pose, so Marianne is given the task of painting a portrait without the girl's knowledge, during which time she will introduce herself as her companion. Everyday socializing and friendship will soon grow into a longing and intense love affair.

The film questions the meaning of gender, gender and sexual orientation, problematizes the topic of unwanted pregnancy and dissatisfaction with arranged marriage. Beautifully filmed, directed, written and acted, "Portrait of a Lady on Fire" has garnered numerous accolades and nominations, including the Screenplay Award and the Queer Palm Award at the Cannes Film Festival, Best Screenplay at the European Film Awards, Best Foreign Language Nomination film on ‘Golden Globes’ and many others.

The film will be shown this Friday, January 17, at the Rector's Palace Concert Hall from 8 pm. Due to great interest for the film we politely remind you to secure your tickets on time. Ticket price is 20 kuna, and you can buy them every working day from 8 am to 2 pm in the office of the Alliance of Independent Culture Centre (across from the post office on Relja) and in front of the entrance to the Rector's Palace Concert Hall 45 minutes before the screening.
